Become a Teacher WITH HORIZON
Horizon School Direct is led by Horizon Academy Trust, in partnership with Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training (YWTT). Horizon offers school-led teacher training and the award of PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for trainee teachers, accredited by Sheffield Hallam University. Trainees experience placements in a wide range of school-based settings working with outstanding practitioners.
The programme includes a one-week induction to the education programme at the beginning of the course and approximately one day a week throughout the year of input at the YWTT Learning Centre. All trainees will have full access to university resources and expertise, studying towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.
Schools within the Horizon ITT partenrship range from the ethnically diverse and inner city, to rural but share a common attribute in that they offer an outstanding professional training experience for graduates new to teaching. Over 20% of the serving teachers within our trust have been trained through our school direct programme (formerly Tidal). When teaching opportunities within the partnership arise, outstanding qualified teachers who have trained with us have the strongest chance of gaining employment. They are then supported through our career development pathway from ECT to leadership opportunities.
Our PGCE Initial Teacher Training Programme will:
- Be based around school experience, with most training delivered at the lead schools four days per week, with one day per week spent at Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training Learning Centre.
- Lead to PGCE with Masters Credits (linking to your Continuing Professional Development within the partnership).
- Lead to a planned career path within our partnership, provided we are able to offer you a position.
